Cleaning Microphone Equipment

When you receive a microphone from us, please know that they have all been cleaned, disinfected, and tested prior to you receiving your order! While basic and routine cleaning is included with your rental, more involved cleanings (like the removal of face paint, makeup, mic tape residue, etc.) may incur a fee.

Here are a few tips and tricks to keep those extra costs down and to ensure your order is in great shape for the next customer.

NOTE: Some cleaning products or methods are known to cause damage to our products. This article covers our safe cleaning recommendations and what to avoid, so please make sure you read this article in its entirety.

Here’s where we recommend to start on all BodyMics equipment:

  1. Make sure nothing is plugged in or turned on.
  2. If there are batteries involved, take them out. Don’t worry about cleaning that cavity, that’s our job!
  3. Make sure everything is dry before turning anything back on. The last thing you need is fried equipment just before showtime!

Cleaning Handheld Microphones:

This really only requires cleaning if someone has some really sweating hands or tape

residue. We’d recommend a disinfecting wipe to wipe down the handle. As for the top/grille part of the mic, please leave that alone for us to clean. That needs to be done a certain way and we’d rather ruin things when cleaning than you doing that!

Cleaning Lavalier/Headworn Microphones:

  • To start, please make sure that you do not use a lot of product to clean the mics. The excess liquid can damage the microphone, so a little goes a long way!
    • We also recommend applying cleaners to a cloth and not directly on the mic. This is easier to control the cleaning product.
    • You are more than welcome to use a disinfectant wipe, just wring out any excess liquid!
  • Leave the actual microphone grille alone. We have a special way to clean this :)
  • Always start with the microphone facing up, and move down the length of the cable as you clean to avoid any excess liquid. Gravity is our best friend here!
  • For headsets, clean the earpiece first, then move to the headband. Follow up with the length of the cable.
  • If there is any excess liquid, simply dry with a clean cloth.
  • Allow the mics to fully dry before using or mailing back to us!

Cleaning Wireless Bodypack Transmitters:

Bodypacks are a bit more durable when it comes to excess liquid (hello sweat!) but we’d still like to limit the amount of liquid around it. Simply wipe down the bodypack with a disinfecting wipe, making sure to be careful around the electronic areas of the body pack (this should be okay if it’s off and the batteries are out!) Wipe off any excess liquid with a dry cloth and allow the bodypack to fully dry before turning on or packing up.

Transmitter Belts

Machine was cold (delicate or light cycle is fine) and tumble dry low. We have a $10 cleaning fee if belts are returned dirty.

What to Avoid:

  • Any cleaning products containing bleach
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Using an excess of cleaning product
  • Avoid cleaning the actual microphone, liquid will damage it!!!

There should be no need to use any other kind of cleaning products like sponges or brushes. Cloths or wipes will be your best friend!!

Please note that any excess damage from use or cleaning too hard can incur a fee. Click here to view those costs.
