Creative Direction for Customization Video

In Act 1 Scene 12, during You Will Be Found–Video of Evan’s Speech

For the best effect, we recommend supplying two videos depicting the scene from two different angles. Your casting of Evan Hansen should be in wardrobe delivering the speech on a plain, well-lit background. The background might represent the physical location the character is delivering the speech from, such as an auditorium curtain or stage. For contrast in the scenery, it is best to avoid an overly dark or black background. No audio will be used.

Video 1 angle:

Angle should be straight forward with the subject looking over the camera, addressing the “audience”. Video 1 should be 60 seconds in length.

Example:

Video 2 angle:

Camera positioned between 45-90 degrees to subject, delivering the same content as video 1. Video 2 should be 30 seconds in length.

Tips and recommendations

Video should be shot vertically, framing the subject (if standing) from mid-thigh and leaving around 1-foot of space above their head. It is recommended that the subject stay in a fixed position, with as little large movements as possible. Any gestures or movements made out of frame may cause awkward cropping or looping issues in the final video.

  • A smartphone video will work well, but other video cameras can be used. The quality of the video can feel spontaneously shot so any small amount of movement or shaking is fine and can enhance the effect.
  • It is best to avoid supplying a video with any editing, or cuts. A single, continuous video is ideal.
  • It is highly recommended you review the script and provide a video that matches the stage direction for the performance.
  • Avoid looking into camera, instead looking over the camera addressing the “audience”
